Question

My son just turned 7 and he has two lumps on his penis. I took him to the doctor, and the doctor said it’s phimosis and that circumcision is necessary. The penis is not inflamed. As parents, we both hope to avoid unnecessary pain for our child. Is this surgery necessary?

Answer

Long foreskins refer to situations where the foreskin covers the urethral opening when the penis is flaccid but can be flipped out to reveal the glans. If it cannot be flipped out to reveal the glans, it is considered phimosis. In both cases, surgery is recommended to prevent inflammation. Surgery is currently the best treatment for long foreskins or phimosis.
