Question
What’s causing my baby to urinate frequently? How should I handle it?
Answer
Frequent urination in infants is quite common. The causes can be categorized into two main types: pathological (caused by diseases) and physiological. Pathological frequent urination may be due to infections, stones, tumors, or foreign objects, with urinary tract infections being the most common. After a urinary tract infection in infants, the amount of urine per void may be small, but the frequency of urination increases significantly, and symptoms such as urgency and pain may occur. Physiological frequent urination, in addition to factors such as excessive drinking, cold weather, or ill-fitting diapers, is often due to psychogenic factors. Once you notice your child has frequent urination, it’s important to find the cause. Don’t worry excessively by asking your child about various things or be overly surprised and ask around for various diseases, as this may worsen your child’s urination.
