Question

At what age can children generally start watching TV?

Answer

When babies watch TV, the lateral occipital cortex, responsible for visual processing, guessing, and estimation, becomes disorganized due to the rapid movement of the screen. The right temporal cortex, which understands color signals, loses its inhibitory power, increasing the pathways between the two cortices and presenting a state of brain structure destruction. The rapid scene changes in TV content cause babies’ attention to become disorganized, making it difficult for them to concentrate fully on a single task. Babies can watch TV, but the viewing time should not be too long. For children between six months and one year old, they can watch for ten minutes; for those aged one to two years, they can watch for twenty minutes; and for children aged two to three years, they can watch for half an hour.
