Question

A baby boy, just over 2 months old, has recently been experiencing symptoms such as sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and fever. How should pediatric tonsillitis be treated?

Answer

Antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications can be administered, along with regional treatments such as tonsil irrigation, intravenous drug injections, and laser therapy. If the main symptom is throat pain, consider giving some painkillers to relieve symptoms. If there is a fever, choose a cooling method based on the body temperature; for temperatures below 38.5 degrees Celsius, physical cooling can be used, while oral fever-reducing medication can be taken for temperatures above 38.5 degrees Celsius. If there are multiple acute severe conditions or complications have already occurred, it is recommended to undergo tonsillectomy two weeks after the acute inflammation subsides. During this period, ensure the child gets adequate rest and consumes plenty of fruits and vegetables.
