Question

My child is 7 weeks old and has recently developed a swollen throat and a fever of 39°C. After taking fever-reducing medicine such as ibuprofen and cold medicine, the fever has not subsided. It has been two days already. What should I do?

Answer

A swollen throat and fever can be symptoms of an upper respiratory infection. While the common cold typically takes about 7 days to run its course, even with medication, it may still take several days. Therefore, there is no need to worry excessively. It is recommended to continue taking the fever-reducing medicine ibuprofen, and also use other cold medications such as roxithromycin tablets. Additionally, ensure the child drinks plenty of water and gets adequate rest. If the symptoms do not improve, it is advisable to visit a hospital for routine blood tests and mycoplasma pneumoniae testing. Intravenous treatment may be necessary if required.
