Question

Is it safe for a mother to take calcium tablets while breastfeeding? If the mother is taking calcium tablets, will it affect the calcium intake of the baby through breastfeeding?

Answer

During breastfeeding, if the mother takes calcium tablets, the baby does not need additional calcium supplements. Conversely, if the baby is taking calcium tablets, the mother should not take additional calcium supplements. Additionally, to promote calcium absorption, it is recommended to let the baby get more sunlight. Even if calcium tablets are taken simultaneously, there should be no adverse effects. It is suggested to also consume vitamin D to enhance both parties’ absorption of calcium.
