Question
My baby has been experiencing diarrhea since birth. Although the stool was normal before, it has since started to come out in small, loose portions with mucus. Despite medical treatment and the use of symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication, the diarrhea continues, and there is still mucus in the stool. The stool test results show no white blood cells. Could this be a problem with breastfeeding? I’ve also been very careful about my baby’s diet.
Answer
Based on the situation you described, your baby has been suffering from diarrhea since birth, although the stool was normal before, it has since started to come out in small, loose portions with mucus. Despite using symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication, the diarrhea continues, and there is still mucus in the stool. The stool test results show no white blood cells, which may indicate symptoms of lactose intolerance. It is recommended to give your baby some probiotics to help with absorption and to strengthen preventive measures against catching a cold.
