Question

Why does a 3-year-old baby keep on fevering after recovering from diarrhea?

Answer

It is recommended to conduct a routine blood test to determine whether the fever is caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Simply using fever-reducing medication is not sufficient; antibiotic treatment should be administered, along with increased water intake. Alcohol can be used for physical cooling (temperature reduction). Additionally, the baby’s fever may be due to gastrointestinal dysfunction. On the basis of physical cooling, if the body temperature is below 38.5 degrees Celsius, medication can be used for fever reduction. If accompanied by symptoms such as runny nose, nasal congestion, sore throat, nausea and vomiting, and decreased appetite, anti-inflammatory and antiviral treatment should be considered.
