Question
The baby’s stools are green and sticky, sometimes with a sour smell, and there is no fever. However, the baby sometimes feels nausea and wants to vomit. What could be the underlying causes?
Answer
Abdominal cold, feeding intolerance, and viral infections may all lead to these symptoms. Considering the possibility of gastrointestinal inflammation and dysfunction, probiotics can be administered to the baby. If the symptoms persist, some symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication can also be given. If parents still have concerns, it is recommended to take the child to the hospital for routine stool tests, blood tests, and C-reactive protein (CRP) tests to determine if there are any abnormalities and to guide further medication treatment based on the results of the examination.
