Question

My baby had a fever of 39.2 degrees last night, which dropped to over 37 degrees after taking fever reducing medicine. This morning, the fever rose to 39.5 degrees again. Apart from high fever and thirst, there are no other symptoms. Should I continue to give the baby fever reducing medicine?

Answer

If a child’s fever reaches above 39 degrees, this suggests a possible bacterial or viral infection and a physical examination is necessary to combat the high fever. When the fever falls below 38.5 degrees, fever reducing medicine can be administered. The medicine should not be taken more than four times a day, with each dose separated by 4 to 6 hours. It is also important to ensure that the child drinks plenty of water to maintain adequate hydration. Allowing the child to rest more will help in the recovery process.
