Question

A parent’s baby collided with the back of the head 20 days after birth, and they want to know if this situation could cause brain injury and how to handle it.

Answer

Although a baby colliding with the back of the head may cause concern, if the child does not lose consciousness, vomit, or exhibit other abnormal symptoms, and returns to normal after crying, parents can first observe the situation. If the child shows symptoms such as coma or confusion, immediate medical attention should be sought. Within 24 hours of the injury, ice packs can be applied, followed by cold packs. To determine if there is brain damage, a brain CT scan can be performed, but please note that CT scans have radiation risks and may affect infants.
