Question

My child, in the second year of junior high school, experiences neck pain when lowering their head after long periods of practice, accompanied by dizziness and headache. They sleep for 7 hours a day, and also have eye pain, with no signs of nearsightedness but sometimes struggle to see clearly. Should they be advised to get glasses?

Answer

  1. The cervical spine has a forward curve that is naturally formed based on human biomechanics. Prolonged head-down postures disrupt the spine’s original physiological curve, causing excessive stretching of the neck muscles and resulting in pain and dizziness when lowering the head.
  2. If there is no nearsightedness, glasses are not necessary. In fact, wearing them could potentially lead to nearsightedness. For a 14-year-old, 7 hours of deep sleep per day is insufficient. Eye pain is often due to overuse leading to eye fatigue. Ensure adequate deep sleep and avoid excessive use of the eyes. Consider using artificial tears or cold compresses for the eyes daily.
