Question

Can a 10-month-old baby start eating a little salt?

Answer

Babies between 8 and 10 months old have already been able to meet their physiological needs for sodium and chloride from their food. Before they reach 10 months, the main part of their diet is milk, along with complementary foods, which all contain a certain amount of sodium and chloride. After the baby is 8 to 10 months old, the daily salt intake can be limited to less than 1 gram. After the first birthday, the salt intake can be gradually increased.
