Question

What should I do if my baby’s whole body turns yellow at three months and the bilirubin levels are not high?

Answer

Your situation may be physiological jaundice. Mild physiological jaundice may appear as a pale yellow, confined to the face and neck, or may involve the trunk, with the conjunctiva also turning yellow, which usually subsides after 2 to 3 days and the skin color returns to normal by the 5th to 6th day. Severe cases may have jaundice that spreads from the head to the feet and can affect the entire body, with vomiting and cerebrospinal fluid also becoming yellowed for more than a week. Especially for some premature infants, it may last up to 4 weeks, with the stool still yellow and urine lacking bilirubin. Blue light therapy is recommended and can be effective.
