Question

What is the normal range for baby jaundice in pediatrics?

Answer

In newborns, jaundice can be either physiological or pathological. Physiological jaundice is usually mild, affecting only the face and neck, and sometimes extending to the chest and abdominal skin. It typically appears within 2 to 3 days after birth and resolves after about 2 to 3 weeks. In this case, the baby’s urine and stool remain their normal colors. Pathological jaundice may be more severe, affecting the entire body, and may last longer, even requiring blue light therapy.
