Question
Why does a newborn’s tongue appear white?
Answer
A newborn’s white tongue may be caused by weak spleen and stomach, or dampness within the body. It is usually possible to alleviate dampness by drinking millet and red bean water. The diet should be light and free from spicy and irritating foods. It is important to drink plenty of water. If there are red spots and vomiting, it may be due to excessive internal dampness. Additionally, for mild redness and blisters, you can immediately soak the affected area in cold water for half an hour, then apply sesame oil or vegetable oil to the wound.
