Question
Why does my child always choke while eating? We have taken him to see a doctor, but all the tests have come back normal.
Answer
When adults frequently choke while eating, it could be due to one of the following three common reasons:
- Eating too quickly can lead to poor coordination between the muscles of the esophagus and respiratory tract.
- Pharyngitis or other respiratory diseases, or early stages of esophageal disorders, can all cause the phenomenon of choking while eating.
- There may be a slight problem in the brain region that controls the coordination between eating and breathing.
