Question

Can you use a warm compress on a feverish child?

Answer

When a child has a fever, you can use a warm compress to wipe on areas such as the armpits and inguinal regions where large blood vessels pass through to help lower the temperature. However, avoid wiping the abdomen. If your child has a severe fever, it is recommended to use alcohol sponge baths to reduce the fever first, and then find out the cause of the fever. There are many causes of fever, the most common being infection, followed by connective tissue disease and malignant tumors, among others. Do not rush to take medication before determining the cause.
