Newborns typically have 2 to 3 bowel movements a day, which is generally considered normal. Sometimes, they may have one bowel movement every 1 to 3 days, and this also falls within the normal range. The consistency of the stool is usually soft, and it may be pale yellow or green due to the iron in formula milk. If the baby is on formula, the stool tends to be more solid and shaped like strings, but it still appears softer compared to an adult’s stool.
