Question

My son is 9 years old. Initially, he said he had a sore throat, and I noticed that his voice was a bit hoarse during conversation. He also had a low-grade fever. How should I treat my child’s tonsillitis with crying and distress?

Answer

To treat a child’s tonsillitis, parents can first administer some anti-inflammatory medication. In addition to systemic treatment, regional treatments can be chosen to enhance efficacy, such as pus pocket irrigation and direct tonsil injection. If the child primarily experiences symptoms of throat pain, parents may consider giving some pain relievers to alleviate discomfort. If there is also a fever, some fever reducers can be taken. In cases of high fever, it is recommended to seek medical attention as soon as possible. For those with recurrent acute severe cases or complications, it is suggested to perform a tonsillectomy after two weeks of acute inflammation subsiding. During this period, ensure the child gets plenty of rest and consumes more vegetables and fruits.
