Question

My child has been crying a lot lately and doesn’t eat much. Do I need to give water to a two-month-old baby in addition to breast milk?

Answer

Breast milk is divided into foremilk and hindmilk. Foremilk provides the baby with water, while hindmilk keeps the baby full. Therefore, a baby solely breastfed does not require extra water. For babies fed on formula, water should be given between feedings.
