Question

My son is 4 years old and has been complaining of pain when swallowing. Upon examination, I found he has a slight cough and now has a persistent high fever. How should I treat my child’s tonsillitis pain?

Answer

To treat pediatric tonsillitis, parents can give their child some anti-inflammatory medication. Additionally, regional treatments can be performed, including tonsil crypt irrigation, intratonsillar medication injections, and laser therapy. If the pain is severe, some painkillers may be administered. If the child continues to have a persistent fever, oral fever-reducing medication can be given. In cases of repeated acute severe episodes or complications, it is recommended to perform tonsillectomy after the acute inflammation subsides by two weeks. Parents should also ensure their child is well-protected from colds and flus to prevent recurrent tonsillitis.
