Question

I don’t know what’s wrong, but my child has been crying and fussing a lot recently. We’ve gone to the hospital and checked, but no issues were found. I would like to ask, what is a normal body temperature for a 4-month-old baby?

Answer

Generally, when measuring body temperature, there are three common sites: mouth, armpit, and rectum. For a 4-month-old baby, the normal body temperature should be between 36.5℃ and 37.5℃ at the rectum; between 36.2℃ and 37.3℃ at the mouth; and between 35.9℃ and 37.2℃ under the armpit. If the measured temperature exceeds the normal range by more than 0.5℃, it is considered fever. Fever can be a symptom of illness, so if your baby has a fever, it is recommended to take them back to the doctor for examination to determine if treatment is needed.
