Question

My child is nine months old and has been having diarrhea with vomiting since yesterday. The stool test came back normal, but the blood test showed elevated blood counts. Some symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication, anti-diarrheal medicine, and saline solution were prescribed. The child started to have a fever of 39.2 degrees Celsius last night, and the fever-reducing medicine didn’t seem to work, and the fever continued today. Feeding the child water and medicine is very difficult, and they are crying and fussing! There’s also little appetite. The fever is still 39.2 degrees Celsius, and the child’s mental state is not good. Should I take the child to the hospital or continue with the medication and observe at home?

Answer

If the child has caught a cold and is experiencing diarrhea, it’s recommended to give them Montmorillonite powder along with some aids for absorption. For the fever, if the house is far from the hospital, use physical cooling methods such as wiping the child’s neck, armpits, groin, and back with warm water. Additionally, give some fever-reducing medicine. At night, adults should not sleep too deeply; they should check on the child occasionally to prevent the child from becoming too hot while the adults are unaware, as this could be harmful to the child in the long run.
