Question

How to treat eye tears after facial paralysis?

Answer

If excluding eye infections, if the duration of facial paralysis is long, eating and crying tears should be one of the post-stroke sequelae, known as “crocodile tears.” The occurrence is caused by erroneous repair after nerve damage. The facial nerve has some fibers that control tear secretion and some that control saliva secretion. If there is erroneous repair, the nerve fibers responsible for saliva secretion regenerate to the lacrimal gland, causing tears to flow when eating.
