Question
Recently, my child, who is around 5 years old, often complains of leg pain. What could be the reason for the cracking sound in children’s joints?
Answer
Children have weaker ligaments, shallow joint sockets, relatively loose ligaments around the joints, soft bone, and cartilage at the ends of long bones. When the main joints are flexed and extended, they may produce a similar “clicking sound,” which is what you hear when you lift your baby. As children grow older, their ligaments become stronger and their muscles develop, causing the joint clicking sound to gradually disappear.
