Question
Can an RH positive blood type really transform into an RH negative blood type?
Answer
RH positive and RH negative are two different blood type systems that do not transform into each other. People with RH negative blood type may produce antibodies after receiving RH positive blood type transfusions, but this is not a change in blood type; it is the immune system’s response to foreign antigens. In cases of maternal-fetal RH blood type incompatibility during pregnancy, the RH negative mother may produce antibodies against the red blood cells of the RH positive fetus, which may lead to hemolytic reactions in the fetus or newborn. However, this does not mean that the mother’s blood type will become RH positive.
