Question

At what level of neonatal jaundice should medication treatment be considered?

Answer

According to medical research, indicators of severe neonatal jaundice include jaundice levels exceeding 229 micromoles per liter (250 micromoles per liter for premature infants), recurrent and rapid worsening of jaundice, jaundice lasting beyond the normal range (more than three weeks for premature infants, two weeks for full-term infants), and pronounced yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes. Additionally, breast milk jaundice may also cause jaundice to persist longer, but typically the baby is otherwise well and has normal liver function.
