Question
A four-month-old baby has recently been observed to scratch its ears and has a blue tint on the nasal bridge. What could be the possible causes?
Answer
Doctors suggest that if the baby has not sustained any injury from a bump, the blue coloration of the nasal bridge may be due to the thinness of the baby’s skin. In the absence of other discomfort, it is recommended to continue observation. However, if accompanied by an itchy ear-scratching behavior, it may be related to a cold or other ear discomfort. Treatment may require the use of antibiotics, cold medication, antiviral and antiallergic drugs, and possibly fever-reducing medication or physical cooling (cooling).
