Question
How should one handle a child’s convulsions and rolling eyes caused by fever?
Answer
This condition is known as a high fever seizure, which typically occurs in children aged between 6 months and 6 years. High body temperature is the main cause, and the temperature during a seizure usually exceeds 39 degrees Celsius. Between the ages of 6 months and 3 years, due to the immature development of the brain, children are more prone to high fever seizures. Studies show that about 3% of children will have one or more episodes of high fever seizures during this period. High fever seizures are not necessarily epilepsy, and only a few children will develop epilepsy afterward. Simple high fever seizures do not require long-term use of antiepileptic drugs, and timely lowering of body temperature can prevent the occurrence of seizures.
