Question

Which hospital in Beijing is good for treating sinusitis? My 11-year-old child has been diagnosed with adenoid hypertrophy but has not had an X-ray taken. He has a chronic hoarse throat problem, resembling the sound of a pigeon. He doesn’t snore, breathe through his mouth while sleeping, or have a runny nose. The doctor suggests surgery, what should I do? Thank you.

Answer

Adenoid hypertrophy often occurs due to incomplete recovery from a cold or cough in children, and long-term nasal congestion may lead to facial deformation, affect intelligence, and possibly trigger otitis media. Therefore, timely surgery is recommended. For adenoid hypertrophy, iontophoresis can also be considered. If the condition is not severe for children aged 4 to 5 years old, observation can be considered until around the age of 10, when the adenoids may naturally shrink.
