Question

At 5 years old, my child was diagnosed with adenoid hypertrophy. Do I have to have surgery?

Answer

Adenoid hypertrophy is often caused by unresolved colds and coughs. Chronic nasal congestion may lead to facial changes, affect intelligence, and increase the risk of otitis media. Therefore, it is recommended to undergo surgery early. For adenoid hypertrophy, iontophoresis treatment can also be considered. Generally, if a child develops this condition after the age of 4-5 and the situation is not severe, it can be observed until around 10 years old. Sometimes, the adenoids may shrink on their own.
