Question

I have adenoid hypertrophy, snoring, and occasional breathing pauses. The doctor said I need surgery, but my blood count is high. I’m currently on intravenous fluids to lower my blood count. My snoring has improved compared to before. Should I still undergo surgery?

Answer

Adenoid hypertrophy is usually caused by incomplete recovery from a cold or cough in children, which can lead to long-term nasal obstruction, facial deformation, and affect intelligence. It can also lead to otitis media. Surgery should be considered promptly, and ionotherapy can also be adopted for adenoid hypertrophy. If a child develops this condition after the age of four or five and the situation is not severe, it may be manageable. However, by the time they are in their teens, it might resolve on its own.
