Question

My baby often has seizures while sleeping at night. Is the child’s nighttime seizures due to calcium deficiency or epilepsy?

Answer

Epilepsy is a chronic disease characterized by abnormal discharge of brain neurons, leading to temporary brain dysfunction. Commonly known as “sacred wind” or “sacred horn,” epilepsy manifests clinically with symptoms such as transient sensory disturbances, limb convulsions, loss of consciousness, behavioral disorders, or autonomic nervous system abnormalities. These symptoms are referred to as epileptic seizures. Epileptic seizures can be classified into grand mal, petit mal, focal seizures, and psychomotor seizures, all sharing the common characteristics of intermittency, short duration, and stereotypy. I recommend that you take your child to a regular hospital for examination and treatment as soon as possible to avoid missing the best treatment opportunity. Wishing for a speedy recovery.
