Question

Can taking antiepileptic drugs cause adverse reactions?

Answer

Convulsions are usually caused by high fever, a condition known as febrile convulsions, or what we call in traditional Chinese medicine as “children’s acute convulsion,” which is one of the common acute conditions in children under eight years old. If a child has convulsions without fever, it may be caused by other diseases, such as encephalitis, brain development abnormalities, epilepsy, or hypocalcemia. Based on the child’s symptoms and personal experience, it might be hypocalcemia. It is recommended to go to the hospital for a diagnosis and then receive symptomatic treatment.
