Question
Can mild epilepsy be completely cured? My friend’s child was diagnosed with epilepsy shortly after birth, and we’re worried about how this condition might affect the child’s future life. We’re not sure how to treat it and what the clinical treatment for epilepsy is?
Answer
Currently, there are mainly two types of treatment methods for epilepsy: medication therapy, which is the first-line treatment for most epilepsy cases; and surgical therapy, which is primarily used for refractory epilepsy that does not respond to medication and has surgical indications. Additionally, there are some supportive therapies such as implantation of threads, acupuncture, medication implantation, and external treatment devices. It is recommended that if a child is diagnosed with epilepsy, they should consult a professional neurologist as soon as possible to develop an appropriate treatment plan. Generally, with proper treatment, most children’s epilepsy can be well controlled, even achieving long-term remission. However, each child’s condition is unique, and the effectiveness of treatment varies from person to person. Therefore, regular follow-up visits and adhering to the doctor’s advice are crucial for the child’s recovery.
