Question

The child’s cold and cough have been ongoing for over a month, with mild nasal discharge. What should be done to handle the child’s cold and cough?

Answer

Influenza vaccine can be used, typically administered before the flu season, with a weekly subcutaneous injection, starting with a dose of 0.1ml, gradually increasing by 0.1 to 0.2ml each week, until reaching a maintenance dose of 0.5 to 1.0ml. If effective, it should be continued for 1 to 2 years. Additionally, Nucleoside Injection (a culture medium of measles virus vaccine) can be administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously twice a week, with each dose being 2 to 4ml; or BCG vaccine can be injected intramuscularly three times a week, each dose containing 1ml (with BCG extract at 0.5mg). These medications can be used before the flu season for a continuous period of 3 months to reduce the occurrence of colds and chronic bronchitis. Bicillin (Biostim) (a glycoprotein extracted from Klebsiella pneumoniae) is also an option.
