Question

How can Rh hemolytic disease be prevented? What should be done if Rh hemolytic disease has already occurred to ensure the next baby is healthy?

Answer

Rh-negative mothers should strengthen their family planning and undergo enhanced prenatal examinations if they are pregnant. Within 72 hours postpartum, injection of RhIgG immunoglobulin can prevent sensitization to Rh antigens in the mother. RhIg immunoglobulin can also be used to reduce the immune response in cases of massive placental hemorrhage or blood transfusion. A repeat injection of RhIgG immunoglobulin at 28 weeks of gestation can prevent the occurrence of Rh hemolytic disease.
