Question

My daughter is almost 9 months old, and breast milk is not enough, but she won’t eat any other complementary foods. What should I do? Are there any good methods? Thank you!

Answer

Around 6 months is the time to start introducing complementary foods, and one should not force the child to eat. Feeding requires patience, as feeding complementary foods is different from breastfeeding, which is an instinctive ability, while the former requires gradual adaptation. The feeding time should be slightly earlier than the normal breastfeeding time, allowing the baby to be more likely to accept complementary foods when slightly hungry. Never wait until the baby is extremely hungry to feed them, as they will only want to drink milk at that point. Be patient when feeding complementary foods and try to make a variety of them to attract the baby’s appetite. Adopt a method of small meals more frequently and gradually increase the portion size. Don’t rush; take it slowly.
