Question

My daughter is 5 years old and often pees 1-2 times at night. She pees more if she drinks water before bed. I don’t know how to solve this problem?

Answer

There could be several reasons: 1. Besides frequent urination, are there excessive fluid intake and a large total urine volume? We need to rule out diabetes insipidus. 2. Are there symptoms of urinary pain, difficulty urinating, or a change in urine color? Are there more bubbles? We need to rule out inflammation and non-inflammatory stimuli. 3. Is the bedwetting at night significantly better than during the day? If so, consider psychogenic polyuria. Finally, I recommend that you first consult a pediatrician and simply perform a routine urine test before deciding further.
