Question
My child drinks a lot of water and pees frequently. He is now 1 year and 10 months old, and has been a big drinker since birth. He hasn’t had any medical checks done. I want to know if there might be a problem with him.
Answer
Frequent urination in children is quite common, with many causes, including physiological ones (such as excessive water intake, cold weather, etc.) and pathological ones (such as urinary tract infections, kidney stones, etc.). The child may just have physiological frequent urination, but if accompanied by symptoms like urgency or pain during urination, it could be pathological, and immediate medical examination is needed. In the absence of obvious pathological symptoms, parents can observe their child’s dietary habits and living environment. If there are no other abnormalities, there is usually no need to worry excessively.
