Question

Children often experience fever when they have tonsillitis. How can we reduce the frequency of tonsillitis and seek more effective treatment methods?

Answer

For children who frequently suffer from tonsillitis, the infection’s severity can be assessed through throat examination for redness and swelling, blood tests, and CRP measurements. If the infection is severe, a change in antibiotics and physical cooling (cooling) may be necessary. If there is persistent high fever, corticosteroid medications can be considered to help reduce the temperature. During an acute episode of tonsillitis, high fever is common, with temperatures often exceeding 38.5°C, and sometimes even over 39°C. When the body temperature exceeds 38.5°C, medication such as ibuprofen or paracetamol should be used to lower the fever. Treatment for tonsillitis usually involves antibiotics, as this infection is often caused by bacteria. Choices of antibiotics for treatment can include cefalexin or azithromycin. In severe cases, intravenous fluid therapy may be required to accelerate recovery.
