Question
Can a one-month-old baby drink glucose? But the baby has bad bowel movements, sometimes only once every few days. Is this common for babies who eat milk?
Answer
Babies do not need to drink extra glucose water. If they cannot consume formula milk, they can switch to formula milk. Generally, feed them every two to three hours, ensuring daily urine output is above six or seven times, and provide plain water between feedings. High glucose concentrations may lead to abdominal bloating. If the baby does not like to drink water, it may cause heat and constipation, so it is recommended to drink more water. Long-term consumption of glucose may cause excessive water excretion, leading to severe dehydration. Although adding a small amount of glucose to the formula milk can enhance the taste, it should not be done excessively to avoid osmotic diuresis.
