Question

My child is 13 months old and has been found to have a wider extracranial space in the frontal and parietal lobes. They have been taking Lysine 5-Vitamin for a month. Do they need to continue taking it? Are there better ways to improve it?

Answer

The widening of the extracranial space as shown on the infant’s cranial CT or MRI scan is a normal phenomenon, as the skull grows faster than the brain tissue. No special treatment is necessary, and it generally improves on its own as the child grows older. In cases of premature infants, the widening of the extracranial space at three months of age has disappeared by 14 months, and their intelligence development is normal.
