Question
How should a baby’s eye injury be treated?
Answer
If a baby’s eyelid is bruised but vision is not affected, initial treatment can involve using a cold compress or ice pack to constrict surrounding blood vessels and reduce swelling. After 1 to 2 days, switch to a warm compress to promote the absorption of swelling. Simultaneously, oral antibiotic medication can be taken to promote the regression of inflammation. If the conjunctival bruise results in only a small amount of bleeding, it can be absorbed on its own and antibiotic eye drops can be applied. If the injury is more severe and affects vision, it should be treated immediately at a hospital.
