Question

I have strabismus in one eye, and the doctor says surgery is needed. Are there any other treatment methods?

Answer

Strabismus affects binocular vision function, and severe cases may lack good stereoscopic vision. Stereoscopic vision is a high-level visual function possessed only by humans and higher animals, and is one of the prerequisites for people to engage in delicate work. Without good stereoscopic vision, there will be significant limitations in learning and employment. Most patients with strabismus also have amblyopia. Due to the long-term focusing on one eye by strabismus patients, the other eye may experience a decline or cessation of development, and even with suitable glasses, the vision may not reach normal levels. Treatment for strabismus is recommended to be surgical, and if the cause is known, it should be removed.
