Question

What kind of conditions can be treated in pediatric surgery? What symptoms are considered pediatric internal medicine? Why does my baby shiver while urinating?

Answer

As a baby approaches the end of urination, the urethral sphincter contracts and closes off the urethra. There may still be some urine left in the bladder at this point, and as the bladder continues to contract, pressure is exerted at the prostate and seminal vesicles, which is somewhat similar to the situation during ejaculation. This pressure stimulates the sexual nerve, leading to shivering. Additionally, regarding the possible causes of blood in a baby’s stool, there are two situations:

  1. If a child has dry stool accompanied by anal fissures, blood will typically appear on the surface of the stool, and the child will cry during defecation.
  2. If it is due to diarrhea caused by enteritis such as dysentery, blood will be mixed with the stool and may contain pus. Examine the baby’s anus for anal fissures and suggest sending a stool sample for examination.
