Question

The child is learning to walk at the age of one year and three months, but the left foot sprawls very much. How should it be corrected?

Answer

At this age, the bones of the child are still very soft, and walking mainly trains the leg muscles and balance. Since the leg strength is not enough, an irregular walking posture is common and should not be judged too early as having an O-shaped leg or an X-shaped leg. Parents should not let the child walk excessively, lest it leads to an O-shaped leg. To determine if it is an O-shaped leg, lay the child flat and see the gap between the legs when they are brought together. If there is a noticeable curvature, it should be seen by a doctor early on. If there is no obvious curvature, press the knees and legs together like rolling out dough to stimulate leg growth.
