Question

My baby has epilepsy, and as a parent, I want to know how epilepsy patients should eat.

Answer

Epilepsy patients should aim for a diverse diet. It is recommended to eat more nutritious and easily digestible foods, such as bread, beans, lean meat, eggs, fish, milk, and so on. Particularly, it is advisable to consume more legumes, fresh vegetables, fruits, and dairy products, which are rich in high-quality protein and phospholipids. These foods can help restore brain function and reduce the frequency of seizures. It is best to eat less of rich and greasy foods, such as goose and mutton; and for foods with a high level of irritation like chili, scallions, and garlic, it is also better to consume them in moderation. Otherwise, it may be detrimental to the recovery of the disease.
