Question

What is the normal level of neonatal jaundice?

Answer

Physiological jaundice is usually light yellow in color, primarily concentrated on the face and neck, and may also spread to other parts of the body, including the whites of the eyes. It typically appears 2 to 3 days after birth and gradually subsides after 5 to 6 days, with the skin color returning to normal. In more severe cases of physiological jaundice, it may affect the entire body, including vomit and cerebrospinal fluid, with yellow discoloration lasting for more than a week. Sometimes, in some premature infants, it may even persist for about 4 weeks, but the stool remains yellow and urine does not contain bilirubin. Blue light therapy is recommended, which usually has a certain effect.
